The French number one in the rental of cranes invests in a rental fleet of GEDA transport platforms.
The German construction and industrial lift manufacturer GEDA GmbH and the French rental company, Uperio expand their cooperation. From now on, Uperio will also include GEDA branded transport platforms in its product range, in addition to the distribution and rental of GEDA 2 PK crane operator elevators.
Uperio is one of the leading rental companies in Europe and worldwide, with a total of 2,000 tower cranes, 700 employees and 32 depots in many countries. Already in 2018, GEDA established the partnership with Uperio in the field of crane operator elevators. This enabled the compliance with the French country-legal regulations to meet this and the thus increasing demand in the French market.
The starting shot in terms of rental of transport platforms was already in 2021 for the major project of the offshore wind farm off Fécamp, located in Normandy. Commissioning of the completed 500 MW offshore wind farm 13, which will be built between 13 km and 22 km offshore, is scheduled for the end of 2023. The energy generated by the wind farm will provide enough electricity each year to meet the electricity needs of 770,000 people, which is equivalent to over 60% of the population of the Seine-Maritime department. Fabrication of the 71 gravity foundations was handled in advance in the port city of Le Havre in Normandy
. Each of these foundations weighs 5,000 tons and measures 31 meters in diameter at its base. Transport to Fécamp was optimally handled by ships.

Solutions for access to heights
The height of the gravity foundations, which ranges from 48 to 54 meters, depends on its installation location on the high seas. To work efficiently and safely at these heights, it was important to have a reliable partner in the field of access technology. For the implementation of this gigantic wind farm, 56 GEDA 500 Z/ZP were used every day. Smooth personnel transport on the construction site could be ensured and a tedious and dangerous ascent was no longer necessary. Specially designed for use in rough everyday construction site conditions, this transport platform is extremely flexible. Equipped with two separate
controls, the device can be used on the one hand as a pure construction elevator with a payload of up to 850 kg and on the other hand as a transport platform for five persons and loads of up to 500 kg. Thanks to its small footprint, high load capacity and multiple applications, the elevator saves time and was able to guarantee optimum logistics on the construction site in Le Havre. With a lifting speed of 24 m/min in material mode and 12 m/min in personnel mode, rapid construction progress was guaranteed and the wind farm could be put into operation at the scheduled time. The transport platform serves three stops and
the construction height grows individually, depending on the construction progress.

Promising partnership
The robust helpers have performed their work reliably with a service life of around ten to twelve months.
Now the transport platforms have been serviced and included in Uperio's regular rental fleet. This marks the start of a new chapter at Uperio and another business segment can be served in the future. In addition, a limited number of used, very well-preserved GEDA 500 Z/ZP transport platforms (year of manufacture 2021 + 2022) including accessories are currently available for immediate sale at Uperio.
