GEDA's contribution to the critical infrastructure of the United States

The GEDA SH1000 US in action at the port of New Orleans

The GEDA SH1000 US is designed for port operations and supports maintenance work at the port in New Orleans. Six of the service hoists from the Bavarian industrial and construction hoist manufacturer GEDA are in use at the port, which is one of the most important in the USA.
The famous Mississippi River runs through the state of Louisiana, where the port of New Orleans is located. The city of New Orleans is probably best known for its huge Mardi Gras parade and jazz culture. The cultural diversity is attracting more and more visitors and more and more cruise ships are starting their journeys in the port of New Orleans. This is an important transshipment and trading center in the USA. The Bavarian industrial and construction elevator manufacturer GEDA is involved in port operations with six GEDA SH1000 US service elevators.

The Port of New Orleans is a deepwater port with a unique location and access to more than 30
major inland and Canadian ports of call. Access from the port extends to over 14,500 miles of waterway
. Port NOLA, the port operator, operates rail and cruise services in addition to water freight. With industrial real estate around the port, the company also offers space for small and large commercial providers as well as maritime use. The location is very attractive for many, and ensuring smooth operations at the port is essential. This is where the six GEDA SH1000 US come into play.

GEDA SH1000 US

The GEDA SH1000 US is a service elevator specially designed for operation on container cranes.
It is primarily used in the port of New Orleans to transport service personnel of up to 6 people to the work site. The elevators in the GEDA SH series can travel up to 200 m. However, the elevator not only transports personnel to the top, it also supports maintenance work by transporting materials and tools weighing up to 500 kg. The special thing about projects with GEDA SH elevators is the individual conditions and requirements on site, which are discussed in close cooperation with the customer. Because at GEDA, everything comes from a single source, from planning and production to service.
In New Orleans, two of the GEDA SH1000 US with a lifting height of 37 m were installed on the port cranes. The platform size offers enough space to transport 500 kg of material or 6 people. The four other models of the elevator in use at the port have a lifting height of 45 m. The platform of this GEDA SH1000 US is larger and offers more space for people and material.
All six cranes use the elevator to reach four floors at a lifting speed of 40 m/min. The safety of the workers is guaranteed at all times thanks to the high and closed floor safety doors and the QTV system. Another major advantage of the GEDA SH is that neither a machine room nor a superstructure shaft is required for assembly.

Seven years of GEDA in New Orleans

The two GEDA units with a lifting height of 37 m have been in operation in the port of New Orleans since 2017. Two years later, in 2019, four more devices with a height of 45 m followed. The port operator Port NOLA opted for GEDA for various reasons. Thanks to the close cooperation and professional handling with GEDA, the special requirements were optimally met. The quality and support are decisive for the joint success of
