Vehicle scales are available in steel or concrete design and as underfloor or above-floor scales from various manufacturers. Evaluation variants range from standard, over EDP solutions, self-service with coins/cards up to the fully automated version. Of course, there are also the corresponding peripheral devices, such as weighing displays, traffic lights, barrier systems, radio stations, etc. Of course, the purpose of use and space requirements play a decisive role in the selection of a truck scale. Then it is decided whether an axle load scale, wheel load scale or truck scale, a mobile or stationary device is used. There are wheel and axle load scales with platforms that can carry loads of up to 20,000 kg. For practical use in everyday working life, it is important to be able to weigh precisely and quickly. This applies especially to trucks in the form of tanker trucks and articulated lorries, vehicles with twin wheels and special tyres, construction site vehicles, but also agricultural vehicles and special vehicles and machines.
A well-considered purchase
There are countless manufacturers and truck scales. But which is the right one depends on many factors. Where should the truck scale be installed? Who should operate it? Which loads and vehicles are involved? - These are only a few of the most necessary questions to be answered in advance. The best thing to do is to draw up a checklist and then go through it together at a meeting on site. First of all, although a truck scale is of high quality and has been in use for a long time, it is also very cost-intensive and is often used very often to constantly every day. This means that it is extremely important that the truck scale is used smoothly. This works the better the better all questions have been worked through and the preparations have been made.
What kind of vehicles will the scale be used for?
Is the floor level, hard or soft?
Is there a proper access road?
Should a dynamic or static measurement be carried out?
Should a height adjustment of the individual axles be carried out?
If so, what is the total weight to be expected?
Is it a weighbridge - how long is the vehicle?
How often will the truck scale be used?
Should the truck scale be bought, rented or leased?
Are there own personnel for operating the truck scale?
Does the driver of the vehicle operate it himself?
To what extent is automation necessary and efficient?
Would a fully automatic operation via license plate recognition using scanner and/or self-service terminal be useful?
Which scale is suitable for what?
Underfloor scales These are suitable for all common applications in weighing technology and have standardized dimensions. Due to the ground proximity, almost completely flat on the ground, there are only low construction costs and the scale is easy to drive on. The load cells are controlled by a microprocessor.
Above ground scales With a slightly raised design, above-floor scales are slightly higher above the ground than under-floor scales, but are also suitable for all common applications. They are also standardised, cost-effective and the load cells are also microprocessor controlled.
Truck scales are also available in specific sizes and designs, especially with regard to the scale pits. The maintenance of the scale is of special importance, because after all it is a "heavy worker" and should be able to do its job efficiently for a long time. A deep construction of the scale pit facilitates maintenance. Modularly constructed truck scales, e.g. made of steel with in-situ concrete weighbridges, have the advantage that there are many individual design possibilities. These are also available in underfloor and above-ground versions. Load cells are equipped with microprocessors. The corresponding software enables the further processing of weighing data. Of course, the harsh environment of the weighing area was taken into account during processing, so that the sensitive measuring system is not damaged. The integrated StrikeShield™Blitzschutz provides central defense for the entire scale including load cells, cables and terminal.
Road vehicle scales Road vehicle scales in above-ground installation with support foundations are particularly suitable for use in all industrial and commercial areas, waste and recycling plants, agriculture and in the construction stone-earth industry. This truck scale consists completely of high-quality precast concrete parts and is characterized by a long service life due to precise manufacturing in steel formwork. The pressure load cells are made of stainless steel. Of course, lateral guides, radio remote control, traffic lights, barriers and driver self-service terminals are also possible. Road vehicle scales are also available as surface or underfloor scales. They are installed above ground on supporting foundations and are used in all areas of industry and commerce, waste and recycling companies, the construction stone-earth industry and agriculture. It consists completely of precast concrete elements and has pressure load cells made of stainless steel. It is easy to maintain and clean. Extras for this type of scale include side guides, radio remote control, traffic lights, barriers and driver self-service terminals.
Flat scales The flat scale is one of the so-called "modern" modular road vehicle scales and can be installed both above and below ground. Among the advantages of this scale are the flat construction and the waterproof design. It is worth mentioning that the bridge and foundation are completely made of precast concrete elements and the truck scale is completely equipped with digital weighing technology. The scale can be extended if necessary. Only a standard crane is required for installation. This truck scale is also used in all industrial and commercial sectors, building stone-earth industry and waste and recycling companies. This truck scale is also available with different numerical increments, e.g. as a dual-range scale with numerical increments from 10 kg to a weighing range of 30,000 kg.
The flat scale is also available with a "modern extra width" of 3.30 m, i.e. in special width with a two-part closed foundation for installation under the floor. The "special width" is used in all areas of industry and trade, in agriculture, in waste and recycling plants and in the construction stone-earth industry. This truck scale is available with a weighing capacity of 60 t or with dual-range scales with increments of 10 kg up to 30 t, beyond that with 20 kg increments. This robust prefabricated reinforced concrete bridge consists of two bridge modules with particularly strong foundation walls. Other bridge sizes with increased load-bearing capacity are of course also available on request. Optionally, the design as compound scale as well as other weighing ranges are also possible.
Then there is the super-flat steel-concrete segmental scale with reinforced concrete modular bridges in cassette design - the "Flexible". Lightweight individual components enable extremely rational transport. This scale is very well suited for difficult installation situations and for installation above ground with continuous in-situ concrete foundation slab and drive-on ramps. The version as track scale has a removable cover plate per bridge segment. Further versions with analogue or modern, digital load cells are available. Due to its super-flat design, this scale is perfectly suited for installation in halls, under silos and for other difficult installation situations. Due to the special design, the "Flexible" can only be driven over lengthwise, but not crosswise!
