When one thinks of Bauhaus in Berlin, one automatically associates it with Gropius. With the new Bauhaus AG building by Müller Reimann Architekten, Berlin has another imposing association. The result is a hall structure with an extravagant facade that gives the building an impressive depth.
The sculptural facade consists of parametric Alucobond cassettes on a SYSTEA substructure and extends over the entire 22,000 square meter building. The façade reflects the light and changes its color and appearance depending on the weather and time of day.
Depending on the position of the sun and the viewing angle, the façade changes from a smooth, two-dimensional image of large silver and small light blue diamonds to diagonal stripes that appear to be interwoven with each other, all the way to the actual three-dimensional silver shell.
