stäubli: new cooperation with LEONI

Stäubli announces advances in charging technology for heavy-duty vehicles in collaboration with LEONI

Stäubli Electrical Connectors strives to realize the fastest possible charging performance for heavy-duty electric vehicles. We are pleased to provide an open insight into our ongoing partnership with LEONI. This cooperation - informal but characterized by strong synergy - has already resulted in significant progress in the field of charging power for electric vehicles.

The dynamic engagement between the two companies goes beyond the scope of a traditional partnership and focuses on an open exchange of expertise and resources. Integrating LEONI's knowledge of the intricacies of cooled cables has been crucial from the outset, enabling Stäubli to quickly gain a foothold in this complex field.

"Together with LEONI, we were able to deepen our knowledge and understand the complete system of cable and connector. With its extensive expertise in cooled cables, LEONI has helped us to gain a head start and further develop our high-performance charging solutions. Now we are continuing the technical exchange for several projects and are proud to work with such an experienced company as LEONI."

says Mathieu Chaligné, Project Manager Automatic Connection Systems at Stäubli, about the cooperation.

Stäubli Electrical Connectors and LEONI have conducted several tests at LEONI's test center, including more than five rigorous weeks of testing for Stäubli's next generation QCC automatic fast charging connector. While both the QCC and the MCS (Megawatt Charging System) are said to use similar technologies, both companies were able to test values up to 5000 A with the QCC. These tests were crucial in refining the next QCC developments to ensure they meet the stringent requirements of mining equipment. In addition, LEONI helped Stäubli define the best technical solution for MCS's various charging current solutions.

"We at LEONI Charging & Power Solutions are always very interested in future technologies and high-tech solutions to drive electrification in all areas. By working closely together, we can benefit from the in-depth expertise of both partners and develop sophisticated solutions for the fully electric society of the future. I am proud that we can support our customers not only with cables, but also with testing and simulation services."

Sebastian Goss, Head of Product Management DC / HPC.

Another round of testing has been confirmed for the new QCC-5000, after which Stäubli expects to inaugurate its own facility in Hésingue, France. Nevertheless, the technical dialog between the two companies will continue, underlining a constructive and forward-looking relationship.

Furthermore, both companies are aware that cables and connectors are inextricably linked when it comes to performance. Stäubli's innovation triggered by the partnership has led to an improved approach to the integration of cooled cables with their MCS and QCC products. This holistic perspective ensures that the integrity of the overall system is not compromised when developing individual components.

With a focus on MCS products and the further development of the next generation of QCC, the collaboration between Stäubli and LEONI promises to drive the industry forward and provide high-performance fast charging solutions tailored to a wide range of heavy-duty electric vehicles. Both companies have the entire spectrum in mind, ensuring that cables and connectors are not only compatible, but also exceed expectations. Stäubli will showcase its latest QCC developments for the mining industry at MinExpo in Las Vegas later this year.
