A look at the trends of the Peruvian avocado market by our guest author Martin Garay
Peruvian avocado exports amounted to USD 293.1 million by week 17 of 2026, distributed among 209 active exporters, with the three largest together accounting for only 17.8 % of the total volume. The 189 exporters at the lower end of the scale accounted for 43.2% of the total volume, with 126.7 million US dollars being transacted via suppliers outside the top 20.
This fragmentation has practical implications for buyers. No single supplier determines the price. No volume bottleneck depends on a single supply relationship. Switching from one medium-sized exporter to another takes place in a vibrant market with real competition at every level.
For an agricultural commodity, where brand and certification often determine the flow of goods, this category is unusually split. The next 17 ranked exporters each contribute between 1.3% and 5.3% of the total value. None even come close to a dominant market position.
The structure of the market in 2026 offers procurement teams choice. Buyers can build a portfolio across available suppliers without paying for redundancy and switch suppliers as conditions change during the upcoming peak season.
