Robust draw-wire sensors for precise distance measurement

Draw-wire displacement sensors from the wireSENSOR series are used for distance and position measurements between 50 mm and 50,000 mm. They can be integrated, retrofitted and are predestined for OEM series use. They are used in various mobile machines such as telescopic cranes, construction machinery and agricultural vehicles, as well as in medical technology and logistics.

The wireSENSOR sensors impress with their compact design and large measuring range and are also suitable for outdoor use thanks to their robust design. They measure the linear movement of a component via a cable made of highly flexible, stainless steel wires, which is wound onto a drum by a durable spring motor. The cable is attached directly to the object to be measured and can also be guided over pulleys to reach installation spaces that are difficult to access.

Application examples

Draw-wire displacement sensors provide machine operators with valuable results that are evaluated for safety, optimization and predictive maintenance. In forklift trucks, for example, they record the current lifting height and derive the optimum driving speed from this. This cannot be exceeded by the driver in order to prevent the forklift from tilting when braking or accelerating. At the same time, they ensure that the forks are positioned quickly and precisely at the correct rack height. On telescopic cranes, cable sensors monitor the extension path of the supports in order to precisely calculate the maximum permissible load. This ensures safe crane operation even when the outriggers are not fully extended.

For special OEM requirements that are not covered by standard models, Micro-Epsilon's wire-rope sensors can be customized. Economical implementation is possible from medium quantities.
