Consulting expertise as a key factor

The TestCenter at the main plant in Reutlingen is used to determine which brush and which version is best suited to processing a component or workpiece. Customers can send in their samples and have them tested in load tests, long-term test series and application trials with different fill materials.

There is hardly a tool or machine element that currently covers such a wide range of applications as the technical brush. Versatile and versatile in its design, it proves time and again to be the optimum solution for tackling even the most demanding tasks in industry and trade. Regularly realizing new, tailor-made brush types is therefore part of the daily business of the experts at KULLEN-KOTI. This is done in close consultation with the customer, with the machinery at the TestCenter at the main plant in Reutlingen also playing a key role.

KULLEN-KOTI's portfolio currently includes almost 150,000 brush variants. However, the application technology potential of this tool, which is also a machine and component element, is still far from being exhausted. In Reutlingen alone, the development of new brush types and the project-specific modification and configuration of established variants make up a large part of the brush experts' daily work. Sometimes this involves innovative solutions for the application of powdery substances or tools for deburring and edge rounding or for removing layers of paint and adhesive; other times the focus is on conveying or positioning tasks, or products need to be cleaned, openings sealed or surfaces dedusted. The goal is always the same: To realize the optimum brush system for the customer's specific application. Numerous factors need to be taken into account along the way. For example, aspects of process adaptation (how fast should the brush rotate?), process integration (does the brush fit into our machine?) or workpiece compatibility (is the fill suitable for the treated surface?) and cost-effectiveness (what is the service life of the brush?). All these factors have an influence on the specific structure and configuration of the brush - for example, on the determination of the dimensions, the design of the carrier, the selection of the fill and the design of the interface for clamping a driven brush in a machine.

Know-how from many directions
The decisive prerequisite for ensuring that the consideration of all these factors ultimately leads to the optimum brush system is the high quality of advice from the experts at KULLEN-KOTI. This is demonstrated to the customer as the sum of many years of practical experience and a wide range of design and engineering expertise, which also includes in-depth knowledge of materials and processes. These interdisciplinary skills and the ability to think deeply about the customer's processes result in innovative solutions that go far beyond a user's previous possibilities.

It is not uncommon for an optimally designed brush to prove to be the more economical removal or application tool, the better transport or positioning element or the more efficient sealant. The experts at KULLEN-KOTI often also open up process optimization potential for their customers - for example, by replacing outdated tools with high-performance brush systems or the targeted integration of brush processing into existing production processes. Due to the large number of types and variants already realized, in many cases it is even possible to achieve a result within a very short time by making slight modifications. Sometimes it is only the diameter of the brush, the thickness of the filaments, the density of the fill or the mechanics of the attachment that need to be adapted to a specific application.

Room for creative ideas
The KULLEN-KOTI TestCenter at the Reutlingen site is the place where many brush technology optimizations are verified or new developments are tested. Here, skilled experts use modern production systems and testing machines to systematically investigate which brush is best suited to processing a component or workpiece and in which version. Customers can send in their samples and have them tested in load tests, long-term test series and application trials with different fill materials (steel wire, plastic, natural fibers, abrasive material, etc.). The economic efficiency of various brush systems will also be considered. Customers can also take part in all of this in person. Especially in combination with the company's consulting expertise and engineering know-how, KULLEN-KOTI's Brush TestCenter offers the best conditions for implementing the perfect brush solution, even for complex requirements. Incidentally, a particularly large number of users from the surface treatment sector use this environment to test the performance of modern tool brushes for deburring technology tasks in individual tests or test series. In doing so, they investigate issues such as service life, removal rate, centrifugal force or surface quality, or they test different geometries, fill materials and fill lengths and their effect on different materials (steel, stainless steel, non-ferrous metals and many more). On request, KULLEN-KOTI can also provide the customer with comprehensive test reports.

Value-adding win-win partnerships
They are deburring tools, cleaning elements, sealants, material flow components and much more - technical brushes from KULLEN-KOTI are at the heart of countless applications in industry and trade today. With what is probably a unique portfolio of almost 150,000 different designs for almost every area of application, the company offers unimagined possibilities for configuring and selecting the optimum brush solution. To make this enormous potential accessible to customers and users, KULLEN-KOTI provides a wide range of consulting expertise. This not only paves the way for a quick product decision, but also offers the opportunity for value-adding win-win partnerships between the manufacturer and its customers. For the user, this often results in findings that lead to considerable quality optimizations and efficiency increases - for example in manufacturing or conveying processes.
