Who will win the race? The Speeding Scientists from Siegen, the Esslingen racing team or HorsePower Hannover? As the main sponsor of the VDI Racing Camp in Münsterland, norelem is once again providing optimal preparation and support for the student racing teams from all over Germany.

19 of the total of 25 teams will participate with their electric vehicles, which they have constructed within the framework of the so-called Formula Student Electric (FSE). This design competition involves building a formula vehicle for a "weekend race driver". The fictitious assignment specifies an annual production of 1000 vehicles at the lowest possible cost. Only enrolled students are allowed to actively work on the design, layout, manufacture and operation of the vehicle. A total of 300 students and alumni are expected to attend Racing Camp 2023. As in 2022, this year's 3rd VDI Racing Camp powered by norelem will be held on the premises of LaSiSe, the Research and Technology Center for Load Securing in Selm in the Münsterland region - an ideal location, since 123.500 square meters, the interaction between different driving situations and different loading conditions is examined.


Optimally prepared with norelem

The norelem preparation event offers participants the opportunity to gain practical experience in the disciplines of scrutineering, dynamics and statics.

During scrutineering (the technical acceptance), the most important safety equipment of the vehicle is tested. If this part is passed, the teams are allowed to use the dynamics areas to test driving behavior and the play of forces (Dynamics). Areas for acceleration (acceleration on a 75-meter straight) and a skidpad (handling in a curve with a constant radius) are integrated into the track and can be driven if required. The static disciplines include the Design Report on the car (technical implementation) and the Cost Report (cost analysis for the production of the 1000 race cars) of the teams as well as the presentation of the business plan to a jury.



Promoting young talent in figures

norelem already organized such a preparatory event for the first time in 2016. The norelem Race Camp continued to take place in the following two years and saw rapidly growing numbers of participants and vehicles - from 175/10 (2016) to 485/30 in the peak year of 2018. After the Corona break, the "re-entry" was successful in 2022 with 200 participants. Since 2019, the VDI has been organizing the event, with norelem as the main sponsor. norelem has been involved in the promotion of young talent for years and supports Formula Student teams in particular: In the current 2023/24 season, there are 54 Formula Student teams in Germany and 42 international teams that can implement their exciting projects thanks to free norelem components and supporting know-how.
