Smart measuring devices set new standards in robotics at automatica 2023
HEIDENHAIN developed the KCI 1300 (singleturn) and KBI 1300 (multiturn) inductive rotary encoders especially for compact motors in robots and other applications. They consist of a scanning unit and only one graduated disk for screw mounting, or alternatively a graduated disk with hub for pressing onto a motor shaft. For this purpose, they have a hollow shaft with a diameter of 25 mm, a very short design and low weight. At the same time, they are insensitive to contamination and magnetic fields. Mounting is very simple with generous tolerances, but is mechanically safe - as is data transmission via EnDat 2.2 with Functional Safety. Overload protection by an external temperature sensor is possible for reliable operation.
The KCI 1318 FOT and KBI 1335 FOT versions are also available. Thanks to fan-out technology (FOT), HEIDENHAIN was able to mount the electronic components and conductive tracks directly on a metal carrier, which can function as an end shield cover, for example. This not only reduces the number of components and the required installation space. heat can also be dissipated directly to the outside via the metal carrier. The pitch circle with hub is pressed onto the shaft.
As compact rotary encoders for large hollow shafts with diameters of 30 mm or 40 mm, the KCI 120 and the KBI 136 round out the range of inductive rotary encoders from HEIDENHAIN, which are specially designed for applications in robotics. They transfer the strengths of the smaller 1300 series to much more robust and stronger robot drives.
