Reliable workpiece inspection with the new METRO and SPECTO touch probe generation

During the process and after machining, the inspection of workpieces is crucial. With the new generation of METRO and SPECTO touch probes from NUMERIK JENA, production metrology and quality inspection benefit from many advantages to ensure that only perfect products are delivered to customers.

A new generation of touch probes celebrated its premiere at EMO 2023 in Hanover - and with a new brand identity. This is because METRO and SPECTO will come from NUMERIK JENA in future. The specialists for particularly small measuring devices from the HEIDENHAIN Group have completely redesigned the touch probe platform and also incorporated their core competence of miniaturization. The new touch probes are significantly slimmer. This results in a reduced baying dimension, which offers many new possibilities, especially for the design of multi-point measuring stations, e.g. a higher number of measuring points.

In general, the flexible application options of the new generation of touch probes were high on the development agenda. A standardized platform design with many variants now results in a wide-ranging modular system from which almost any requirement in production metrology, quality assurance, measuring equipment monitoring or position measurement can be met. All properties can be combined:

- Accuracy class ±0.5 µm (METRO) or ±1.0 µm (SPECTO)

- Measuring length 12 mm or 30 mm

- Shaft diameter uniformly 8 mmstandard shaft diameter 8 mm for measuring length 12 mm and 30 mm

- Axial or radial connection variants

- Pneumatic or radial pin actuationpin actuation pneumatic or spring-loaded

- Interface 1 VSS or TTL - Interface

The mounting compatibility of the newthe mounting compatibility of the new METRO and SPECTO touch probes and the option of using different variants in one application not only increase flexibility when initially setting up a measuring station. They also facilitate adaptations within existing setups and save effort and costs. Further advantages are the robustness and high accuracy over the entire measuring range as well as the resulting reliability and process safety of the measurements.
