HEIDENHAIN at AMB 2024: These solutions take machine tool sustainability to the next level

Where do users and manufacturers of machine tools stand on the road to greater sustainability? What steps will bring them closer to the goal of reducing the CO2 footprint and the total cost of ownership (TCO)? At AMB, HEIDENHAIN is presenting a broad portfolio of options under the motto "Stairway to Sustainability - More productivity from the first part", which opens up individual solution approaches to increase productivity, quality and process reliability.

More productive through context-sensitive user support:

The new hardware variants of the TNC7 from HEIDENHAIN

Three new hardware variants with 24", 19" and 16" screens and two different keyboard units expand the application possibilities of the intuitive TNC7 control from HEIDENHAIN. At AMB 2024, particular attention will be paid to the 16" TNC7 basic version. It rounds off the TNC7 portfolio downwards in terms of size and offers all the typical TNC7 advantages for 3+2-axis machines. This means that the highlights of the TNC7 are also available for the successor control to the TNC 620: a monitor with full HD resolution and a comprehensive package of options with features such as the graphical 6D setup MAS, the collision monitoring DCM or the OCM whirling milling cycles, which make working with the new generation of controls from HEIDENHAIN simple, time-saving and reliable.

Innovative software solutions for the digital workshop:

The latest version of the StateMonitor software with energy monitoring and ERP connection

The StateMonitor MDC software of the digital workshop from HEIDENHAIN offers a real-time view of the production status of CNC machines in the workshop. To this end, StateMonitor records, evaluates and visualizes machine data such as machine statuses, tool data, NC program runtimes or PLC signals. In the latest software version, users can now also perfectly evaluate detailed data on the actual energy consumption of electrical energy, compressed air and process water and derive optimization potential from the knowledge gained. The new ERP connection also enables the automatic exchange of data with higher-level ERP and MES systems for highly efficient processes in the digital workshop. The StateMonitor from HEIDENHAIN thus provides even more transparency in the workshop.

3 tasks - 1 system for comprehensive tool inspection:

VT 122 camera with intelligent VTC software - world premiere at HEIDENHAIN at AMB

The new VT 122 measuring camera with VTC software from HEIDENHAIN fulfills three tasks in one system: tool presetter, tool microscope and visual tool inspection. Without detours via a measuring laboratory, but with images directly from the machine room, it offers a precise view of the tool cutting edges and provides facts for the holistic assessment of tools. The combined intelligent features of the VT 122 camera and VTC software enable automated measurement of length and diameter. The images can be used to manually measure the wear width and inspect the tool down to the last detail. Benefits for the user: a significant increase in productivity, automated documentation of the tool condition and wear development that can be reproduced at any time and considerable time savings for reduced TCO during tool life tests.

Longer productive times and greater process reliability:

The TD 110 tool breakage sensor from HEIDENHAIN

checks tools for breakage in the machine room, fully integrated into automated processes: With the TD 110 inductive tool breakage sensor from HEIDENHAIN, users can gain considerable time advantages and minimize rejects at the same time - two essential aspects for sustainable manufacturing. The TD 110 saves up to six seconds when checking for breakage - and that with every tool change. This is because it detects a broken tool as it passes by on its way from the tool magazine to the machine room or back. The compact and robust TD 110 tool breakage sensor can be retrofitted in the work area of almost any machine tool in the immediate vicinity of the table.

No need for sealing air and an unclouded view of the scale: HEIDENHAIN encoders with innovative True Image technology reduce CO2 footprint by 99%

The use of cooling lubricants during machining causes liquid contamination and condensation in the machine tool. However, HEIDENHAIN linear encoders from the LC and LB series and angle encoders from the RCN and ECA series offer a view of the scale that is completely unclouded by this contamination. The innovative True Image technology ensures this so reliably that in many cases the devices can be used completely without compressed air. This simplifies the sealing air system. The advantages of position detection in a closed loop can be used with a CO2 footprint reduced by up to 99 % and significantly lower system costs.
