Brushbound into the IIoT world

Two worlds meet and go hand in hand in the future. On the one hand, we are talking about a brushed DC motor (GR series). This is a universally applicable drive motor that has been very popular for decades precisely because of its simplicity and reliability, and which also runs completely without semiconductors. On the other hand, there is the matter of high-end control electronics. The BGE 5510 dPro from Dunkermotoren sets very high digital standards in terms of control technology, programmability and networking possibilities.

At the first view it seems to be a contradiction to combine a seemingly outdated technology with a high-end controller instead of modern brushless DC motors (BG series). If the typical BG requirements for dynamics or service life are not critical in applications, there is no reason for not using GR motors. The opposite is the case: The simplicity is reflected in the costs and, in addition, GR motors with incremental encoders show a very balanced behavior and only very low cogging torques. In terms of position, speed and current control, GR motors are in no way inferior from BG motors.

As known already, the GR motors from Dunkermotoren in the power range from 4 to 240 W can be combined with all components of the extensive modular system such as gearboxes and brakes. The BGE 5510 dPro itself also meets all requirements. It can be easily configured via the Drive Assistant 5 commissioning software and the connected GR motor can be perfectly matched to the respective application. From stand-alone operation via CANopen communication to communication via PROFINET, EtherCAT and Ethernet/IP – everything is possible with the BGE 5510 dPro. Dunkermotoren therefore succeeded in making even the simplest motors visible and transparent in the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT).

After intensive considerations and consultations, Dunkermotoren has decided to cancel the physical participation of Dunkermotoren, EGS Automation and MAE at the sps exhibition 2021 in Nuremberg.
This year, Dunkermotoren's established drive technology magazine is published under the headline "Dunkermotoren & MAE - Synergy in the drive world".
The KG 80 gearbox was developed for drive solutions where only a very short installation space is available. With an edge length of only 80 mm, the gearbox cross-section is nearly equal to the motor ones. This makes the combination particularly lean.
Stepper motors are currently experiencing a true renaissance. Many still think of Far East products that are more noticeable for their typical noise than for their performance. Yet sophisticated stepper motor controllers nowadays not only compensate for the supposed weaknesses. They also make clever use of the special stepper motor characteristics and offer functions that are otherwise more commonly assigned to servo motors. These include fast positioning modes, different acceleration ramps, bus connection and status monitoring.
Dunkermotoren impressed the jury of Industrial Production magazine in this year's competition for the "INDUSTRIAL Production - handling award 2021". With the BG 95 dPro servo motor in combination with the NG 500 hub gearbox, Dunkermotoren achieved third place in the electrical automation category. Dunkermotoren's solution was the best evaluated drive system. The award is given for innovative products from companies operating in the field of automation, robotics or intralogistics.
Dunkermotoren will again be an exhibitor at sps in Nuremberg in 2021. In hall 1 at booth 438 Dunkermotoren will present itself for the first time together with MAE and EGS Automation.
