Inductive hardening of a compressor wheel and its shaft

This hardening system is used as part of a training system to determine the energy efficiency of a welding and subsequent hardening process.

A workpiece carrier plate is loaded with a compressor wheel and a shaft and moved into a safety cell by pressing a button. From this carrier plate, a robot takes over the two parts and clamps them in an automated welding station. In this station, the shaft and the compressor wheel are welded together. In the following step, the component is removed by the robot and inserted into the fixture provided for this purpose on the IHU108. After an optical workpiece detection, the actual hardening process starts with a target temperature of 1000°C. Afterwards, the workpiece is quenched by an integrated inductor shower.

Due to the PLC sequence control (menu navigation in German), as well as the non-contact temperature measurement (pyrometer), several heating programs can be defined, which allows the trainees to be introduced step by step to the improvement of energy efficiency. After removal of the finished component from the IHU108, it is again placed on the carrier plate and discharged from the safety cell.
