Digitalization is increasingly shaping work processes and infrastructure in production halls and at large transshipment points. The Internet of Things (IoT), which allows machines to communicate autonomously and be operated remotely, is opening up new possibilities. In modern production, ever-increasing amounts of data are being generated for control and diagnostics. While this data is often sent via conductor lines with low transmission rates for simple transport tasks of mobile applications, this communication method is no longer possible for more complex applications due to the required data rates.
In order to realize this, these large amounts of data must be transmitted quickly and, above all, without interference - even in environments burdened by free radio, which requires complex planning of the limited free radio frequencies to ensure their coexistence.
The SMGM (Slotted Microwave Guide Mini) data communication system specially developed for these applications and environments enables the integration of absolutely interference-free data transmission, which is also specially designed to meet the increasing requirements of Industry 4.0. The communication takes place in a shielded aluminum profile, the so-called slotted waveguide, so that no interference or any influence on other communication systems in the environment must be taken into account. The plug & play solution can be easily integrated into all standard EMS profiles and systems without extensive configuration and thanks to its compact design.
It is available as a system solution when combined with the modules for energy supply (vPOWER), positioning (vPOS) and drive control (vDRIVE). The SMG service tool is also available, allowing users to analyze the system and adapt it if necessary.
