ep Dualfilter T.I.P.S. filter tips - The ultimate protection of pipettes and samples against unwanted and unnoticed contamination by aerosols, drops and splashes.

ep Dualfilter T.I.P.S. filter tips are filter tips with contamination protection through a two-phase filter. The two filter layers made of flexible, hydrophobic material fit perfectly into the tip cone and retain almost 100% of all aerosols1 and biomolecules. This filtering effect is achieved by different, clearly defined pore sizes. The layer facing the sample provides protection against drops, splashes and aerosols. The layer facing the tip cone of the pipette serves as a second barrier against contamination and reliably binds biomolecules. A defined air passage rate ensures complete sample recovery and the usual fast pipetting.

In a blind test, filter tips from various manufacturers were tested at the Fraunhofer Institute for Toxicology and Experimental Medicine (ITEM) in Hanover. The focus was on the prevention of aerosol contamination of the tip cone. The filter effect on salt aerosols as well as on biomolecules (DNA fragments) was investigated. The quantitative determination of DNA fragments was performed by real-time PCR. The results show that ep Dualfilter T.I.P.S. pipette tips consistently provide significantly more effective protection against aerosols than other commercially available filter tips. In terms of particle permeability (0.13% +/- 0.11%), ep Dualfilter T.I.P.S. are as much as 55 to 677 times more effective than other manufacturers' filter tips tested. When tested for protection against DNA fragments, ep Dualfilter T.I.P.S. were shown to be 21 to 600 times more effective (0.02 % +/- 0.01 %). The worst measured results for particle permeability were 88.00 % +/- 7.00 % and for DNA fragments 12.00 % +/- 5.20 %. All filters of the Eppendorf ep Dualfilter T.I.P.S., ep Dualfilter T.I.P.S. LoRetention and ep Dualfilter T.I.P.S. SealMax are made of the same polyethylene (PE) and have a comparable pore size structure. There are no standardized test methods for the filter effectiveness test of filter tips. Therefore, a further study was carried out with ep Dualfilter T.I.P.S. SealMax based on EN 29463. This standard deals with testing the filter performance of filters, such as those used in applications in cleanroom technology or the pharmaceutical industry. The filter efficiency test carried out by a certified institute showed a minimum particle separation efficiency of the ep Dualfilter T.I.P.S. SealMax of 99.5 % in relation to test aerosol particle sizes of 0.05 to 0.5 µm.
ep Dualfilter T.I.P.S. in PCR clean & Sterile are sterilized with electron beams, are proven pyrogen-free and PCR clean (free of human DNA, DNase, RNase and PCR-inhibiting substances).
