The switchgear of the 01 series is positively and self-aligningly clamped between the bottom of a current-conducting housing and a steel contact cover insulated therefrom with an integrated, stationary silver contact which closes it like a button cell. The spring snap disc, which forms the current transmission element, also supports the movable contact and relieves the bimetallic disc of current flow and self-heating by exerting constant contact pressure. The bimetal disc is held on the projecting movable contact without having to be welded or clamped. It can therefore operate freely, continuously and reacts only to the ambient temperature in the device to be protected. When the rated switching temperature is reached, the bimetal disc snaps into its reverse position and pushes the spring snap disc downwards. The contact is opened abruptly and the temperature rise of the device to be protected is interrupted. If the ambient temperature now drops, the bimetal disc snaps back into its initial position when a defined reset temperature is reached and the contact is closed again.
