Reliable measurement starts with the right protection
Industrial sensors do more than measure. They are often exposed to dust, oil vapours, chemical contamination, ageing process media, cleaning residues, condensation, aggressive gases or polluted oils. These influences can affect the sensing element and critical connection points. Possible consequences include sensor drift, unstable readings, shorter service intervals, higher maintenance effort and less reliable process control.
Sensor protection is therefore more than an accessory. It is a key factor for stable measurement performance in industrial applications.
E+E Elektronik develops dedicated protection concepts for sensing elements and critical sensor components (E+E Shield Technologies). The concept is selected according to the application, the medium and operating conditions. It protects against environmental or chemical influences, supports stable measurement over the long term and can reduce maintenance requirements. E+E Elektronik does not use one standard protection concept for every application. The protection level must match the measurement task.

ChemShield – Protection Against Chemical Contamination
ChemShield Technology is a new barrier concept from E+E Elektronik for selected applications where chemical contamination can affect sensor performance. A protective layer is applied to defined areas such as the sensing element and solder pads. It acts as a barrier against harmful chemical influences and supports stable measurement in chemically demanding environments.
ChemShield is especially relevant where process media change over time, where oils age or oxidise, or where chemical pollutants can cause drift effects at the sensing element. It extends the application range of selected E+E Elektronik humidity and moisture in oil sensors into environments that require enhanced protection against chemical contamination.
The SensShield is a protective layer applied to the sensing elements, their leads and solder pads. It protects the sensitive measurement area against application-related influences and supports stable sensor performance in demanding environments.
SensShield is especially relevant where sensing elements are exposed to dust, dirt, oil-based contamination, salts, moisture exposure or corrosion-related stress. SensShield helps prevent stray impedances caused by deposits on the active sensor surface and on the connecting leads. This improves long-term stability and can reduce maintenance requirements.
LeadsShield Technology protects sensitive connection points such as sensor leads and solder pads against application related stress. The protective encapsulation encloses the connection leads and solder pads. This helps prevent corrosion and contamination. Only the sensing element is exposed to the medium to be measured.
By protecting these connection points, LeadsShield increases the robustness of the sensor design without changing the sensing element itself. This is important when fast sensor response must be preserved.
What are protection concepts and how do they work?
Depending on the sensor type and application, protection can be applied to the sensing element, sensitive connection points or specific functional areas of the sensor. The aim is always the same: to protect measurement performance without compromising the requirements of the application.
Different applications expose sensors to very different risks. A moisture in oil sensor faces different conditions than a humidity sensor in a climate chamber, a fume hood or a drying process. E+E Elektronik therefore combines sensor expertise, application knowledge and its own technology development. This ensures the right protection level for each measurement task.
E+E protection concepts create dedicated barriers or protective layers on the parts of the sensor that are particularly exposed.
Depending on the concept, this can include:
The protection concept is selected according to the expected stress factors. This gives the sensor the necessary level of protection while maintaining the measurement performance required by the process.
Advantages of E+E Shield Technologies
Higher long-term stability in critical applications
E+E Shield Technologies support reliable humidity and moisture in oil measurements where contamination, ageing, chemical load or aggressive environments can affect sensor performance. They help maintain stable readings over time and reduce the risk of measurement drift.
Protection that matches the application
Each application places different demands on the sensor. E+E Elektronik therefore offers protection concepts for specific measurement tasks, media and operating conditions. This gives the sensor exactly the level of protection required, without unnecessary complexity.
Reliable performance without compromise
Protection must match the measurement task. In applications where fast response is important, E+E Elektronik avoids unnecessary protection measures that would slow down the sensor. This helps balance protection, response time and serviceability.
Protection where it matters most
E+E Elektronik protects the parts of the sensor that are particularly exposed to application-related stress. These include the sensing element, sensor leads, solder pads and other critical areas. The result is a robust sensor concept for real operating conditions.
Service-oriented sensor design
E+E protection concepts help reduce maintenance effort and extend the usability of sensors in demanding industrial applications.
