Advancing the Digital Product Passport Together: GEMÜ Drives Innovation for the Connected Industry

The GEMÜ Group, together with the Heilbronn-Franken Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK) and the VDMA, provided insights into the strategically important topics of industrial data rooms and digital product passports. The event, held at GEMÜ’s headquarters in Kupferzell, focused on concrete application examples and cross-company data exchange— with aparticular emphasis on the needs of small and medium-sized enterprises.

About 30 participants from industry, business, and trade associations attended the event to learn about current developments related to digital data rooms and Manufacturing-X, an initiative for secure data exchange in the industry. The Digital Product Passport enables companies to provide product information transparently, in a standardized manner, and across company boundaries throughout the entire product lifecycle, thereby laying the foundation for more efficient data exchange along the value chain.

As a co-host, GEMÜ used concrete applications to demonstrate how digital data rooms and the Digital Product Passport are already being used in industrial practice today. A hands-on tour featuring various applications, AI-supported solutions, and a trade show model of a bioreactor brought the presented concepts to life. Using the exhibition model, GEMÜ demonstrated in a practical manner how the CONEXO asset management software provides digital support for maintenance. A workshop also provided concrete steps for getting started with cross-company data exchange.

“The event offered an excellent opportunity for an open exchange and answered numerous practical questions. However, it also made it clear that the level of knowledge regarding the Digital Product Passport varies greatly from company to company. Right now, the main focus is on providing guidance and clearly explaining the interrelationships. The best way to get started is through concrete use cases, practical discussions, and the courage to just take the first step,”
says Simon Stadtmüller, Senior Product Owner, Digital Business Transformation at GEMÜ.
