Eppendorf introduces innovative BioBased deepwell plates

Eppendorf introduces innovative BioBased deepwell plates and expands its product range for sustainable laboratory solutions

Eppendorf introduces innovative BioBased deepwell plates and expands its product range for sustainable laboratory solutions

Eppendorf is pleased to announce the launch of its BioBased deepwell plates, which are sustainably produced from at least 95% renewable raw materials (calculated using the mass balance approach*). This innovative product represents a significant step towards sustainable laboratory practices and is in line with Eppendorf's commitment to environmental responsibility and scientific progress. The new Deepwell Plates BioBased are designed to meet the highest standards of laboratory performance while reducing the carbon footprint compared to conventional plastic labware. All performance characteristics, such as chemical stability, temperature range for use and stability during centrifugation, are identical to the fossil-based deepwell plates. By using second-generation raw materials derived from non-edible biomass, Eppendorf ensures that these plates offer an environmentally friendly alternative without compromising on quality or efficiency. The introduced deepwell plate has 96 wells with a volume of 2 mL each. Further formats are planned.

Key features and benefits

  • Sustainability: Made from renewable resources, BioBased Deepwell plates contribute to a circular economy and help reduce dependence on fossil fuels.

  • Performance: These plates maintain the high standards of durability, chemical resistance and thermal stability that Eppendorf products are known for, ensuring reliable results in various laboratory applications.

  • Versatility: Suitable for a wide range of applications, especially in proteomics due to their exclusive purity level (PCR-clean and proteinfree). Intended for high-throughput screening, sample storage and compound libraries, the plates are compatible with standard laboratory equipment and suitable for automated applications.

  • Traceability: Each plate is supplied with a laser-engraved lot number and expiry date for easy traceability.

  • Certification: The plates are externally certified by MyGreenLab® and our production site is ISCC plus certified.

The product will be available worldwide from January 2026.
