What is KLIMAfit?
With KLIMAfit - a project under the KLIMAfit funding guideline of the state of Baden-Württemberg - companies draw up their greenhouse gas balance sheet with the support of Arqum GmbH and use it to derive economically viable measures to improve their energy efficiency and reduce their individual emissions. Participation in the program is therefore not only worthwhile in terms of climate protection, use of resources and operational know-how, but ultimately also in terms of cost savings. The focus is on reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Implementation and project steps
Over the course of six months, participating companies are trained by consultants in all climate-related topics in four workshops. External experts are also invited to report on current practice and new, innovative technologies in relevant areas for each of the key topics. The individual consultation sessions held in parallel to the workshops form the core of the project. At these meetings, an individual materiality analysis is carried out with each project participant to determine the scope of the greenhouse gas balance. Once the greenhouse gas balance sheet has been successfully drawn up, the participants are shown individually, with the support of the consultants, in which areas there is potential for optimization to systematically reduce emissions and cut costs. These approaches are recorded in a program of measures and implemented during the course of the project and afterwards if possible.
Greenhouse gas balance
The main content of KLIMAfit is the structural development of an individual greenhouse gas balance for each participating company based on the requirements and principles of the Greenhouse Gas Protocol. The so-called Scope 1 (=direct emissions) and Scope 2 emissions (=indirect emissions) must be determined by each participating company as mandatory content. These include emissions from electricity and heating energy consumption and the vehicle fleet. The materiality analysis is also used to determine which Scope 3 emissions (= upstream/downstream emissions) are included in a company's balance sheet based on the criteria of quantity, data availability and scope for influence. This includes, for example, business trips, purchased goods, commuter emissions, transportation and events. This results in individual balance sheet limits for each company.
Project completion
At the end of the project, compliance with the required criteria is checked by an independent commission. All participating organizations receive an award at a high-profile event.
Result
Reducing costs and contributing to climate protection at the same time - these were the goals FLUX-GERÄTE GMBH set itself at the start of the collaboration in September 2022. During the project period of just over nine months, FLUX succeeded in defining a large number of individual measures to reduce emissions and costs and was therefore also awarded the title of official KLIMAfit company at the end.
