Micro-Epsilon sensors reliably measure and monitor important measured variables in rail traffic and railroads. They thus considerably increase safety and smooth processes. They are used in trains as well as in measuring vehicles, control systems and measuring machines.
The increasing use of rail networks and rail vehicles requires regular, reliable and accurate measurements. Micro-Epsilon sensors make an important contribution to the safety and stability of railcars, wagons, wheel tires, brakes, track and rails. They are used, among other things, to detect tire profiles, tilt angles, vibrations, rail profiles, axle bearing gaps, lifting heights, and rail wear on high-speed tracks.
Measurements are made using various measuring principles such as inductive sensors, eddy current sensors, laser scanners, and tilt and acceleration sensors. These sensors must often provide accurate results even under the most adverse conditions, such as weather, sanding dust and vibration.
For example, eddy current sensors eddyNCDT are used to continuously monitor the oil gap in the axle boxes of high-speed trains. Laser sensors detect, among other things, entire train profile assemblies in a preventive manner, which makes it possible to set maintenance dates for reprofiling. The robust magneto-inductive sensors are predestined for outdoor use and provide long-term stable measurement results. This makes it possible to draw conclusions about the movement and deformation of concrete sleepers in bends, which are subject to very high loads, especially in heavily used bends.
Inductive displacement sensors of the induSENSOR EDS series are integrated in high-speed trains to measure the inclination of the train body. This reduces the effect of lateral acceleration forces on passengers.
