Sustainability - a guiding theme of the KARL MAYER GROUP at ITMA, 08 - 14.06.2023, Fiera Milano, Hall 4 B119
The KARL MAYER GROUP is a family-owned company with a long tradition of social responsibility. In its corporate strategy, it undertakes to act in harmony with social and ecological goals and to follow the "Environmental Social Governance (ESG)" standards.
Focusing on a future worth living, the KARL MAYER GROUP ensures environmentally friendly processes with its products and services.
For its presentation at the world's most important textile machinery trade fair, the KARL MAYER GROUP has made sustainability an overarching theme. A compact sustainability gallery shows, among other things, an example of the circular economy of material from the warp knitting sector, a 3D-knitted garment with extremely low-waste production, and a technical lattice knitted fabric which scores twice in terms of environmental protection: thanks to its construction from natural fibres and its use as a support material for CO2-effective vertical urban greening.
Another feature of the collection of sustainable innovations relates to production technology: a solution for indigo dyeing with an extremely low CO2 footprint will be on show for the denim sector.
In addition to the focused performance show, the theme of sustainability will also accompany ITMA visitors almost at every turn on the rest of the KARL MAYER GROUP's stand. Under the motto "Master the Change - profitable, flexible, sustainable", solutions and innovations will be presented as answers to the most important customer questions. One of these is: how can I deal with the increasing pressure to be more sustainable?
One way for warp knitting is shown by a new drop-plate raschel machine which, thanks to specific modifications, is suitable for processing staple fibers. The resulting knitted fabrics are not only chic but also sustainable, meeting the growing demand for clothing with a low ecological footprint.
A high-performance warp knitting machine operates with energy-efficient direct drive. Energy consumption can be monitored using a newly developed monitoring system. The machine also uses pattern data from the cloud, eliminating the need for pattern discs with their expenses for materials and transport. A warp knitting machine with weft insertion demonstrates how an optimized laying system can save waste in weft yarn, and an ADF model from STOLL requires less energy thanks to a package of targeted design changes.
Digital solutions also make an effective contribution to greater sustainability and, at the same time, economy. The new, innovative design software k. innovation CREATE DESIGN for flat-knitted textiles, for example, offers an interface to any 3D software. Through this connection, realistic 3D renders can be generated, which enormously reduce the need for physical patterns and thus material consumption.
In addition to the exhibits, the ambience in which they are presented is also committed to the theme of sustainability. The focused booth concept relies on minimal material consumption for wall and floor structures - many components are modular and reusable - while maximizing hospitality and clarity. Cooperation with an Italian stand construction partner ensures short transport routes, and in catering attention is paid to minimizing waste, for example by using reusable tableware and dispensing with packaging if there is nothing to prevent this.
