Can mechanical engineering be sustainable?

Yes, and several times!

We already save energy and waste disposal during the production of our machines. Forward-looking building management also reduces the energy required for heating, lighting and electricity. But we also contribute to a reduction in the resources used by our customers through low consumption and long operating times.

We are particularly proud of our surface processing equipment, which makes today's environmentally friendly technologies possible in the first place.

It is not only the big things, but also the many small things that contribute to sustainability and ensure a better tomorrow.

Conserving resources
As early as the 1930s, it was discovered that a bearing machined with Superfinish was not only quieter and lasted longer, but also required less power. Supfina has continued to develop this Superfinish process, and today it is indispensable wherever things are moving.

Sustainability has thus been an integral part of Supfina from the very beginning.

Electric mobility without Superfinish?
Hardly conceivable.
In electric cars, many things are in motion, and low-friction component surfaces are the premise for the economical use of energy and thus the prerequisite for higher ranges.

Every bearing point, whether in the engine, on the axles or in the wheel bearings, must therefore not only deliver maximum mileage but also a minimum of friction.

Decades of research and development are the basis for meeting these requirements today with modern superfinishing technology.

Because the quality of the bearings has a direct impact on the mileage of the vehicle.

Lower friction = Higher efficiency.
Supfina has the solution.

A wind turbine consists of many different bearings, from small ones in the generators, to huge ones for the rotation of the pulpit and the rotor shaft. Each of these bearings must have the lowest possible friction, high load capacity and extremely long service life.

All three requirements are unsolvable without a perfect surface. Superfinish from Supfina ensures these optimal surfaces on all bearing components, thus contributing to environmentally friendly energy generation through wind power worldwide.

Brakes for the environment.
Supfina has the technology.

To reduce the enormous fine dust pollution and its impact on the environment, not only new drive systems must be developed and used, but also new brakes.

The abrasion of the brake pads on the cast discs releases high levels of fine dust emissions. This is precisely where Supfina and its partners have come in and developed a new system:

A wear protection layer is applied to the brake discs using a laser or cold gas spraying process and then precisely brought to an optimum surface using a Supfina double-sided grinding machine specially designed for this application. This minimizes the resulting abrasion and increases the service life - a double benefit for our environment!

1250sqm photovoltaic system.
Our contribution.

685 Solar modules, 1250sqm surface, 250kWp power and a CO2 saving of 100t per year: these are the impressive figures of the photovoltaic system on the roof of the Supfina factory building.

With an expected annual yield of 260,000kWh, it generates as much electricity as 65 households consume in a year.

This investment is another step for the future of the planet and for the future of the company.

Smart building management
for our environment
Supfina opted for a CO2-neutral heating system at a very early stage. Other environmental projects include energy-saving LED hall lighting with automatic lighting control and a photovoltaic system. Each is a step towards greater climate neutrality at Supfina.

And the next is already in sight: the photovoltaic system will soon be doubled in capacity.
