AC/DC does not originally stand for a well-known hard rock band, but for the most common form of conversion of electrical energy worldwide from alternating current to direct current. When electricity began its triumphant advance at the beginning of the 20th century, there was a so-called electricity war between direct current and alternating current networks and their respective protagonists Edison and Westinghouse. Ultimately, AC networks and thus AC/DC power supplies prevailed and have been considered the dominant form of supply for more than 100 years. The outstanding advantages of alternating current are its easy changeability in terms of voltage level and its simple switchability.
