Adam Georg Thorwarth founded the "1.Deutsche Zwingenfabrik" in Schmalkalden at Neumarkt 14 in May 1876. These clamps (caps on wooden handles for hand tools) were manufactured by him much more economically than before with the introduction of deep drawing.
The steady growth necessitated a new building on the Blechhammer company premises acquired around 1901, which was taken over on 31.01.1903 and is still owned by the family today. Ever mindful of rational production, clamps, sleeves, caps and other deep-drawn parts have been manufactured at this site ever since.
Since 1990, the continuation of the family tradition has been in the hands of the great-grandson of the company founder, Dipl. Ing. (FH) Jürgen Thorwarth. He has brought the company back to market requirements under the most difficult conditions. As successors, the two grandsons Michael Thorwarth and Andreas Tanz continue the 140-year tradition today.
Today, the company can produce well over 120 million drawn parts a year using modern deep-drawing and finishing technology and has thus stabilised its market position with a focus on growth.
