What weights are available for scales?

The type of weights depends primarily on the intended use and the type of scale for which they are intended. Scales must first be "adjusted", i.e. calibrated. Calibration weights are aligned for this purpose. Then scales must be checked and tested. This is what the checkweights and test weights are for. If the scales no longer work accurately, they must be readjusted with calibration weights. Many balances do not have to be calibrated, i.e., adjusted by the "official" weights and measures office. In principle, all balances can be officially verified. The manufacturers always offer optional verification and calibration certificates. Calibration weights are then used for this purpose. Scales used in the trade must always be calibrated. Calibration weights are also precision weights, since weighing with the appropriate scales must be particularly precise, e.g., fine weights, millimeter range!

Precision weights of Class M1 are used for adjusting, testing and calibrating commercial scales of Class III and thus for quality assurance. These weights are also used for verification of class M2 and M3 weights.

Class M2 precision weights are designed for the adjustment, verification and calibration of Class III commercial scales and their quality assurance. These weights can be used for verification of class M3 weights.

Class M3 commercial weights are used for adjustment, verification and calibration of Class IIII coarse scales and their quality assurance. These weights are used with class III commercial scales, class IIII coarse scales, learning aids for school and training, and for load tests in elevator, crane and vehicle construction.
M1, M2 and M3 weights are used as load bodies to determine tension, compression and torsion, depending on the requirements.

Use of test weights

Test or check weights are high-quality weights used to test scales: Test weights are available in casket sets ranging from 1 mg to 20 kg. They fall into accuracy classes E1-M3 and can be made of stainless steel, brass or cast iron. Test weights can, of course, also be rented or loaned out. For industrial scales of class M1, test weights of 10 kg, 20 kg, 50 kg, 500 kg up to the size of 3,500 kg are available. Since requirements and usage vary widely, each operator of measuring equipment decides on the intervals for his or her own equipment. Among the accuracy classes for test weights, class E1 is the most accurate, M3 the least accurate.
E1 are the standard weights of the highest accuracy class and are intended for meteorological service. E2 are calibration weights for high-resolution class I precision balances.

Block and Fine Weights

Block weights are supplied without a calibration certificate, fine weights with a calibration certificate. Fine weights are available in the millimeter range.
