Design as a success factor: aesthetics meets function

Good design is also becoming increasingly important for overhead lines. After all, public acceptance is a decisive factor when it comes to energy transmission. The slender, elegant high-voltage pylons designed by Danish architects Bystrup have therefore already won several awards. However, they place complex demands on the insulator chains.

Neither classic glass cap insulators nor porcelain long rod insulators were an option for the pylons, as they would either not have worked or would have disturbed the design. The solution: silicone long rod insulators. Produced using the ACIM process (Automatic Continuous Injection Moulding), PFISTERER produces them in lengths of up to seven meters. Composite insulators over four meters long were used for the overhead line in Denmark. Each individual insulator delivers more power than several porcelain long rod insulators combined. So good design not only increases acceptance, but also efficiency.

At a glance
  • aesthetic composite insulators for Danish design office Bystrup
  • Award-winning, beautifully designed high-voltage pylons require innovative insulators
  • Silicone insulators with a length of up to seven meters exceed the performance of porcelain insulators many times over
