Clamp/brake system (DiskClamb) by HEMA Maschinen und Apparateschutz GmbH
The innovative clamping and braking system is operated with compressed air and therefore reacts much faster than hydraulic models. It also works on the principle of a spring accumulator: By pressurizing the axial piston with compressed air (OPEN) and bleeding the opposite cylinder chamber (CLOSE), the spring accumulator is preloaded and the brake disc is relieved or released. If the pneumatic system fails, the axial piston is moved by the spring accumulator, pressing the brake pads against the brake disc and clamping them securely and with great force. This makes the system absolutely fail safe.
Thanks to its emergency brake function, however, the DiskClamp can not only reliably fix static loads, but can also effectively brake masses out of motion. This function is particularly required for highly dynamic applications such as tool grinding centers: Here the grinding head rotates at very high speed and must therefore be carefully secured against sagging.
HEMA manufactures the DiskClamp in the versions DC 50, DC 100 and DC 120 with diameters from 30 mm to 145 mm (DC 50), 70 mm to 230 mm (DC 100) and 70 mm to 250 mm (DC 120). The braking or holding torque of the DC50 is 40 Nm (Pn = 4 bar) or 60 Nm (Pn = 6 bar) depending on the nominal/operating pressure (Pn). For the DC 100 it is 160 or 240 Nm and for the DC 120 it is 175 Nm/275 Nm. If the axial piston is supplied with compressed air in addition to the spring accumulator (booster mode), the braking and clamping force can be increased even further. With the DC 50 version, the brake/holding torque increases from 60 Nm to 105 Nm when pressurized with 6 bar, with the DC 120 even from 265 Nm to 465 Nm.
