Temperature influences all components involved in the measuring process. The different behavior of materials with temperature changes plays a particularly important role here. As the temperature increases, components expand differently depending on the material. This means that they change their component geometry and thus influence the measurement result.
Let's assume that the temperature of a workpiece with a length of 1 meter increases from 20 °C to 21 °C. If the workpiece is made of steel, it will increase in length by 11 µm. If the material is allminium, the component is even extended by 24 µm. For this reason, temperature control is essential for all measuring processes.
