In numerous companies, wastewater treatment by means of vacuum distillation has already established itself as a cost-effective and sustainable alternative to disposal. Umdasch also decided early on to treat its industrial waste water efficiently and sustainably. A VACUDEST vacuum evaporator has been used for the treatment of contaminated water since 2002 - at that time for 400 m³/year. Since the expansion of powder coating in 2018, the company has relied on a new VACUDEST M 1.500 Clearcat - for 1,500 m³ per year.
The requirements for the manufacturer of the VACUDEST, H2O GmbH, based in Steinen, Baden, were:
Renewal of the wastewater treatment plant from 400 m³ to 1.500 m³ in the same area.
A rinse water quality for direct use with a conductance < 20 µS/cm.
H2O GmbH was able to meet both of these challenges. The confined space was no problem for the design and so the more powerful new VACUDEST M 1.500 CC was able to take its place in the same area. (see Figure 2).
A special task was the conductivity of the rinsing water. Due to certain physical effects, oils in particular can often not be completely separated during distillation and are transferred to the distillate in traces. This effect can often lead to a clouding of the distillate. In this case, such a result would entail additional costs for post-treatment in addition to the ongoing costs.
However, this is not the case with the patented H2O Clearcat system. This guarantees the customer the highest distillate quality without the use of the usual post-treatment and consumables. The additional option for the VACUDEST vacuum distillation system enables the safe and efficient treatment of industrial wastewater containing oil and grease in a single process step. At Umdasch, the conductivity value was thus reduced to 3 µS/cm and the desired goal was more than achieved.
With this result, H2O GmbH was ultimately able to win over the responsible employees at Umdasch The Store Makers GmbH, especially in the technical area. The entire team is satisfied with the course of the project and the successful implementation with H2O: "With these excellent results in the conductance value, the distillate can be reused 1:1 and does not have to be treated again - that convinces us." Thanks to the recirculation system, the company's production is now virtually wastewater-free, as the treated water can be recirculated without any problems.
