Burgsmüller GmbH: lifting whirling

Stroke whirling is a process that can be used to machine almost any pitch and internal diameter.
The basic idea behind this process is to replace the rotation of the tool, which is inclined by the pitch angle, required to produce the helical contour with a superimposed rotation/translation movement. The stroke required for this is directly dependent on the pitch. In addition, the tool is inclined by the pitch angle in the rotating and oscillating whirling mandrel.
This design allows the bearing and gear unit to be relocated outward from the inner diameter, which can thus be designed stably and safely without restrictions due to the available space. Here, too, the support of the tool head by means of guide rails on the inside diameter ensures safe guidance of the tool. Machining of inside diameters from 15 mm with almost any length is thus possible. In addition, it is possible to produce conical contours during machining without a guiding tool head; the only restriction here is the maximum permissible projection length of the whirling mandrel.
