By optimizing the layout and printing technology, SRT Resistor Technology GmbH has succeeded in extending the precision range for high-ohm chip resistors into the 1 gigaohm range. The improved properties of the new CHM series with sizes 0805 to 2512 relate not only to resistance tolerance but also to temperature and voltage coefficients. For example, size 1206 is now available in the range up to 1 gigaohm with a temperature coefficient of 50 ppm/K and a voltage coefficient of less than 100 ppm/V. Corresponding improvements have also been made to the other sizes.

The optimized layout has made it possible to increase the maximum operating voltages of these resistors considerably. Taking into account the load capacity, size 0805, for example, can now be operated at 200V (previously 100V) and size 1206 at 600V (previously 200V). If no closer tolerance than 5% is required and the resistors therefore do not need to be balanced, the maximum operating voltages are even 600V for size 0805, 1000V for size 1206, 1200V for 1210 and 3000V for 2512.

The standard version of this new type has easily solderable contact surfaces made of a PtAg alloy in thick-film technology, is thus also suitable for conductive bonding and exhibits non-magnetic behavior. In special versions, the contact surfaces can also be made of thick-film gold for die or wire bonding or, after glass passivation of the resistor layer, can also be electro-tinned.
