Multi-process short-stroke press: Innovation from Langzauner Perfect

Pushing the physical limits and daring to do something new - this was the task the Langzauner team set itself with the development of a 2600 t short-stroke press for the Thermoplastic Composites Technology Center "TTC" at the Leibniz Institute for Composite Materials GmbH (IVW).

To enable component development on a 1:1 scale, a new era in the field of multi-process forming presses was ushered in!

PIONEERING TECHNOLOGY FROM UPPER AUSTRIA

The production of ultra-light, multifunctional structures is becoming increasingly important as a technology of the future, against climate change and for hydrogen technology as well as in aerospace. Langzauner Perfect is all the more proud of the new multi-process short-stroke press, which was realized for the first time for the research facility in Kaiserslautern. - This innovative technology is now a component of Langzauner's product range for customers in the aerospace, automotive and sports industries.

"The required key figures really pushed our team to the limit. We are all the more proud to now be able to offer a technological leap from the research sector to our industrial customers, thanks to a great willingness to perform and invest" - Alexander Wiesner, Sales Manager at Langzauner.

HIGH-REACTIVE PARALLELITY CONTROL & SHORT CONTROL LOOP
With the new short-stroke press, Langzauner has created a highly reactive system that achieves values in accuracy and frequency of parallelism control that are unique on the market.

With the highly reactive parallelism control, direct influence is exerted on the material properties during the pressing process.
Due to an incomparably short control loop, extraordinary reaction times are achieved during the pressing process.
With traverse speeds of 800mm/s, cycle time and process speed are reduced to a minimum.
Pressure build-up to full pressing force in less than 1s
Parallelism accuracies of 0.007 mm (7 µm)
In order to be able to map the control loops at this unique processing speed, Langzauner relies on a CPU from a renowned manufacturer. Only with this CPU is the high processing power for the short control loop achievable.

INNOVATIVE INFRARED OVEN REDUCES ENERGY CONSUMPTION
An infrared oven positioned directly behind the press with a heating element area of 2 x (3,250 mm x 2.250 mm) enables the heating of flat, thermoplastic semi-finished products up to a size of 3,000 mm x 2,000 mm. Combined with a fast-acting linear unit, this ensures fast and safe transport of the fiber composite semi-finished products to be processed into the press. The press is equipped with a generously designed clamping area of 2,000 mm x 3,000 mm.

Up to 30 zones on the infrared heating field can be individually controlled and heated via the press control system. Only those areas that are occupied with material are heated:

Energy consumption is greatly reduced.

Zone control from zero to 100 % per heating field: direct adjustment to the material thickness is possible.
With this further development, Langzauner underlines its innovative strength in emission reduction for composites processing. Customers currently benefit from the reduced energy consumption both monetarily in the area of production costs and in the long term with a view to ambitious emission targets.
