Securing traveling tires properly

Dolezych ensures safety on car transporters

Dortmund. The problem of correct load securing is as old as the transport industry. Expertise and flexibility are essential, as specific tasks also require specific securing equipment and methods. The Dolezych company in Dortmund has developed a whole new generation of lashing straps and the TensionController for the transport of cars and trucks.

Regardless of whether it is a valuable classic car, a new car or a truck weighing several tons¬- when trucks and cars travel, correct securing is subject to physical laws; there are many influencing factors that must be taken into account:
The transport must be carried out safely in accordance with the Road Traffic Regulations (StvO); above all, the combination must not pose a hazard to road users.
The resulting securing forces must be evenly distributed to the lashing points or floor plates, even if there is sometimes little space between the floor plate and the vehicle for correct tensioning of the lashing straps. The lashing hooks must not damage the floor panel. Paint, aluminum rims and the like also do not like steel hooks and react highly allergic to correct but rough lashing with paint damage and scratches.
All in all, automobile transport is a highly difficult business.

Securing properly - but how?

Dolezych designed its high-performance lashing straps with TensionController for 35 mm and 50 mm webbings especially for the transport of cars and trucks. The newly developed webbings have excellent wear properties and only a low elongation of less than 4% (PES), less than 2.5% (PES/UHMW-PE) and less than 1.5% (UHMW-PE high-performance Dyneema® fiber). The products guarantee optimum transmission and distribution of the applied prestressing force. The fastening points are evenly loaded, so that damage to the floor panel, for example, is ruled out when used correctly. Troublesome retensioning is largely eliminated, as the pretensioning force is maintained throughout transport. In addition, the innovative product family meets the latest test specifications of the expert group TÜV Süd (which Dolezych played a key role in developing in 2018).

Dolezych's TensionController is a special hose that is placed over the tire so that the lashing strap does not come into contact with the tire (according to VDI Guideline 2700 B. 8.1/8.2, the strap must not have direct contact with the tire at any point). The new TensionController has a specially developed slip inhibitor on the outside so that it adheres to the tire. At the same time, it scores with the best sliding properties on the inside, so that the lashing strap can slide very well and the applied pretensioning forces are distributed evenly. Another advantage is that the webbing can be threaded in quickly and easily. The extra compact design of the associated gear ratchet (with 500 daN pretensioning force) also promises convenient handling even where space is limited.

The TensionController is unique due to its outstanding efficiency eta of ≥ 0.5. The efficiency measures how loss-free a TensionController distributes the pretensioning force applied via the ratchet over the tire. This means that at least 50 percent of the originally applied preload force arrives at the "other side" of the tire - with alternative products, this value is sometimes significantly lower.

Your advantage: reach your goal faster with the TensionController

  • Fast checks thanks to standard conformity to VDI 2700 sheet 8.1/8.2 and DIN EN 12195-2
  • No need for retensioning while driving - thanks to the best sliding properties inside. No "stick and slip effect" of the internal webbing during tensioning. Thanks to the TensionController, the pre-tensioning force is transported with significantly less loss than before, the efficiency η (eta) is greater.
  • Loading guidelines are followed. The new lashing straps with TensionController comply with the current loading guidelines of OEMs, for example at Daimler.
  • Nice to have: GS certification and additional product certification according to TÜV SÜD (Standard ZSRAS2019/01 Reifenradsicherung)
Innovative by tradition

Dolezych, a family-owned company based in Dortmund, Germany, is traditionally and passionately concerned with correct load securing. Through its participation in expert committees and standards committees, the manufacturer is significantly involved in the development of standards. Dolezych's engineers have already developed many products that have set a precedent and have often been adopted and copied by the industry.

For transport on car transporters, Dolezych already developed a test rig in 2018 together with the load securing specialist group of TÜV SÜD to demonstrate the (previously unknown) real securing forces generated on the individual tire and in all lashing strap components in a purely static test. Since then, these tests have become the new benchmark for TÜV SÜD certifications.
Dolezych's engineers used the new findings to develop the new generation of lashing straps for car and truck load securing. They were tested including all components such as swivel hooks, TensionController and tension ratchets according to the new test specifications.
In a "modular system," the different ratchets and webbing straps can be combined with each other and thus optimally adapted to the specific conditions of the transport vehicle and the vehicles to be transported.
