The company has gone through many ups and downs in the course of its history. Even right now, during the pandemic, it's not easy. "Corona hit us in 2020 and then took over the entire world. Many of our customers and also individual suppliers are located abroad, of course this does not pass us by without a trace." said Frank Reiser, Managing Director at Gmöhling. "Nevertheless, we survived the last year quite well - not least thanks to the booming Internet trade and our large customers in this industry. Also in the health care sector, in hospitals, our products are needed right now. This year we can even invest again in new equipment and machinery, as well as maintenance of the now 69-year-old building and also take on three new apprentices again."

In 1941, the Gmöhling company was founded as an aluminium foundry in Alsace. After the war and English captivity, the young Walter Gmöhling took over the 95% destroyed company from his late father and rebuilt production in Nuremberg in 1948. Here he initially produced vises, cooking pots and candle casting machines (to Israel) from the remaining aluminium and developed a lightweight collapsible aluminium transport box for use in American DC-3 aircraft for the Berlin Airlift. The latter was the actual birth of the company as it exists today. It subsequently made a name for itself primarily in the intralogistics of the textile industry and as a preferred supplier to the German and other European postal companies.

Today, the standard range of products covers a very wide spectrum, from crates to cupboard, transport and spring-bottom trolleys to the many individual special solutions made of aluminium. The industries supplied are as varied as the products themselves. The export share is over 50% - because the products "Made in Germany" convince countless customers in France, Great Britain or Switzerland, but also for example in China.

One thing runs like a red thread through the company's history: Innovation, further development and adaptation to the market. "We have just registered a patent for an order picking trolley with infinitely adjustable spring force for Internet commerce !" tells Oliver T. Schmitz, Head of Sales at Gmöhling. This was the only way the company could survive the 80, sometimes difficult years. Today it is mainly customers from the Internet trade who order products for their logistics from Gmöhling in. Modern e-commerce retailers are looking for solutions such as individually designed shelf or spring floor trolleys for their order picking. This means for the processing of online orders in their warehouses or the processing of returns. "And Gmöhling, with 80 years of experience in the development, design and production of light metal products, can deliver that for them."

In addition, the employees have recognized the spirit of the times and have developed a completely new product line - the "Gmöhling Green Line".
