Market analysis by European Bioplastics (EUBP) shows that the global market for bioplastics is expected to grow by 36% over the next five years, according to François de Bie, chairman of European Bioplastic. Global production capacities are expected to increase from around 2.1 million tonnes to up to 2.8 million tonnes in 2025. Novel biopolymers such as biobased PP and PHA are the main reason for the rapid and dynamic growth.

As can be seen in the statistics published by Statista in 2019, the global production capacity of bioplastics is already expected to exceed 2.6 million tons in 2023. Europe is considered a major producer in this regard, with its share of global production capacity expected to increase from around 25% to as much as 28% by 2025.
