What is a bench scale?

Bench scales are used for a wide range of tasks in the private sector as well as in industry. Due to very easy handling and many practical functions, such as an automatic tare function, they are suitable for various purposes. Most models can be used to determine objects with a maximum weight of 150 kilograms. With this weighing range, they are very useful helpers in production, warehousing or shipping areas, among others.

Bench scales, as the name suggests, can be used on a table. For this reason, they are used for a wide variety of purposes. They are available in various designs, such as analytical scales, counting scales, precision scales or price calculating scales. Which model is most suitable depends primarily on the respective area of application.

For example, models used in laboratories have completely different functions than those found in supermarkets. Particularly modern bench scales even have a WLAN interface, a so-called Profibus connection or a piece counting function, among other things. What do I have to pay attention to when buying?

1. Good readability

In order to be able to read the determined weight quickly and, above all, accurately, many bench scales have a display with a good resolution. Often this even lights up, so that it can also be used in a dark room. After a short time, the lighting then goes out again by itself, so that the battery is protected. The display of the different models can vary in size. In some cases, the contrast and brightness can be adjusted according to your own preferences.

2. The tare function

The so-called tare function (weighing function) is also a very important feature of a table scale. Because with it all weights can be determined very exactly. For this purpose, the user presses the so-called tare button when the respective object is on the scale. This zeroes the weight in order to fill a container with different quantities of a product. This means that the user does not have to keep calculating in his head. This is because the tare function sets the weight of the respective container to zero. It is very practical for many jobs and should definitely be available.

3. The tare weight of the bench scale
