Study content

The dual Bachelor's degree course in Electrical Engineering/Automation Technology ETAT teaches the basics of mathematics, physics, electrical engineering, electronics, computer science and automation technology.
The ETAT-IE specialization, which builds on this, covers the implementation of industrial requirements and procedures in the product phases of design and production as well as maintenance and service, from electronic devices to three-phase distribution systems.
This includes in-depth, practice-oriented training in analog/digital circuit technology and signal processing, microcomputer technology and programming, as well as in device/system design using industrial CAD tools, taking into account the standards for safety and EMC as well as industrial manufacturability. In the age of IoT, the planning and acceptance of the network infrastructure to ensure communication is a further focus.
Aspects of the product development process such as market analysis, product cost planning, specification contents and their implementation using team-oriented ISO900x-compliant project management and quality management methods, e.g. the practical courses on electronics, electrical engineering, network technology, programming of embedded systems and switchgear construction, which are part of the degree course, use specific technical examples to deepen the theoretical knowledge acquired as well as the application of the industrial CAD toolchain (including AutoCAD, PSpice, Altium, LabVIEW, Eclipse, EPLAN, SIMARIS, Wireshark) and measurement technology.
The knowledge gained in switchgear construction is a very good basis for a career as an electrician.

In the 12-week practical phases following the 12-week theoretical phases, students learn about and apply company-specific processes and CAD tools for the design / project planning, production and maintenance of devices / systems in the companies of the practice partners.

Graduates of the ETAT-IE specialization are prepared for the industrial requirements, i.e. the technical aspects of the realization and maintenance of competitive network-compatible CE-compliant devices / systems as well as the necessary internal and external ISO900x-compliant process and quality management.
