Ship ahoy! - GEDA Dechentreiter GmbH & Co. KG

As the champagne bottle burst on the hull of the “Alexander von Humboldt”, the transport platform GEDA 500 Z/ZP had completed its first journey. At the largest launching ceremony of a ship of all times, it transported reporters and television crews in the port of Hamburg to the location of the event. The “Alexander von Humboldt” of the French shipping line CMA CGM is one of the largest container ships in the world. With space for approximately 16.000 containers, 396 metres long, 54 metres wide and 110.000 HP, the ocean giant will be sailing across the world's oceans in the future. The ceremonious launching, with hundreds of guests and spectators, took place in summer 2013 at the container terminal Burchardkai at the port of Hamburg. Patroness of the ship was the deputy major of Hamburg, Dorothee Stapelfeldt. So that all those could follow the spectacular launching of the ship and did not obtain a place in the port of Hamburg, numerous reporters and television crews were present. In order to enable the best possible reporting, the HHLA Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG, decided to transport the reporters to the location of the action with the aid of a transport platform. On four containers stacked on one another, a stair tower from scaffolding, from the company Nietiedt Gerüstbau GmbH, was installed – and, precisely there, the transport platform from Type GEDA 500 Z/ZP provided its useful service, in order to convey the guests as quickly as possible, but primarily, safely upwards. From the uppermost platform, direct access to the ship was possible. GEDA long-standing partner Siloco, Siess, v. Loë & Co. (GmbH & Co. KG) had rented the transport platform to the company Nietiedt Gerüstbau GmbH. The transport platform GEDA 500 Z/ZP is especially conceived for various requirements and can be used extremely flexible. The device has two controls and, thus, can on the one hand be utilized simply as a construction hoist with a payload of up to 850 kg and, on the other hand, as a transport platform for five persons and loads of up to 500 kg. The transport platform 500 Z/ZP is an indispensable aid for rapid assembly of scaffolding as well as for the subsequent tasks. Due to the minimal space requirement, high load bearing capacity and numerous options of application, the construction hoist saves time and ensures optimum logistics. With a lifting speed of 12 m/min in the material mode and 24 m/min in the person mode, rapid transportation is ensured. No construction site is the same as the other. Therefore, different versions of platform, with different loading doors and flaps, permit optimum adaptation of the GEDA 500 Z/ZP to the conditions on site. The spacious loading platform, opening upwards, provides sufficient space for all types of construction material. Furthermore, the transport platforms are astounding due to their easy assembly and operation and it is no longer imaginable that they would not be in service on a construction site. The practical assembly bridge permits safe and rapid assembly of the 1.5 meter long GEDA Unimast segments, as well as their anchoring to the facade or scaffolding, directly from the platform, up to a height of 100 m. The masts can be quickly attached using captive screws and lock nuts, without the assistance of a crane. Already for decades, GEDA not only sets new standards regarding quality, but also by the topic safety. Thus, the GEDA 500 Z/ZP is naturally equipped with the usual safety equipment such as limit switches, speed-dependent safety gear, safety stop and overload protection. A wide range of hot-dip galvanized landing level safety gates provide for safe transfer between platform and the respective landing. Thus, also on the container ship in Hamburg, where a landing level safety gate in the “Comfort” design was utilized. As with all GEDA rack and pinion hoists, the lubrication equipment is included as standard in the GEDA 500 Z/ZP. This ensures significantly lower wear on the toothed rack and pinions.
