GEDA 500 Z/ZP writes history - GEDA Dechentreiter GmbH & Co. KG

It is the most visited museum in Germany. With a surface area of 73,000 m² and around 50 different science and technology sections, the Deutsches Museum in Munich has been attracting visitors from across the world for over 100 years. Yet not everything in the garden is rosy because now extensive refurbishment is now required. The Deutsches Museum has set itself the objective of bringing scientific and technical discoveries closer to visitors in a clear and understandable manner. It houses a total of 28,000 items for adults and children alike to marvel at. However, due to its rather advanced age, the venerable building on the Museum Island in Munich urgently requires refurbishment. The complex underwent some makeshift repairs after the Second World War but has not been fundamentally refurbished since. As part of the “Future Initiative Deutsches Museum” the building is being renovated updated to state-of-theart standards, both technically and in its contents. Eagle eyes from the “Denkmalschutz”, the German body responsible for conserving historic monuments, are closely monitoring the works as nothing in the configuration of the building must change. So the planetarium dating back to 1959 is to be renovated with this in mind. The popular exhibition is housed in the dome structure on the roof of the main building. Apart from the masonry, the dome itself is being gutted, replastered and insulated. A specialist American company is then incorporating the actual planetarium dome made out of steel. The interior will then gleam with new chairs and modern technical equipment. To enable access to the building site 36 metres up in the air, a decision was made to deploy the GEDA 500 Z/ZP Transport Platform on the building site to quickly and safely transport people and materials up to the dizzy heights along a modular scaffolding with a staircase. A cat walk leads from the top exit gate on the roof terrace to the dome entrance. The GEDA 500 Z/ZP Transport Platform has proven to be an important and reliable deployment support tool. The GEDA 500 Z/ZP Transport Platform has been specifically designed for daily use in tough building site conditions and is extremely flexible in its use. The device has two separate controls and, thus, can on the one hand be utilized simply as a construction hoist with a payload of up to 850 kg and, on the other hand, as a transport platform for five persons and loads of up to 500 kg. The 500 Z/ZP Transport Platform is an indispensable aid for rapid assembly of scaffolding as well as for the subsequent tasks on the construction site. Due to minimal space requirements, high load bearing capacity and numerous modes of usage, the construction site hoist saves time and guarantees optimum logistics in construction. With a lifting speed of 24 m/min in the material mode and 12 m/min in the person mode, rapid construction progress is ensured.

No construction site is the same as the other. Therefore, different versions of the platforms, with different loading flaps, enable the perfect adaptation of the GEDA 500 Z/ZP to the conditions on site. The spacious loading platform, opening upwards, provides sufficient space for all types of construction material. Furthermore, the transport platforms astound all concerned with their easy assembly and operation and it is no longer imaginable that they would not be in service on a construction site. The practical assembly bridge permits safe and rapid assembly of the 1.5 meter long GEDA Unimast segments, as well as their anchoring to the façade or scaffolding, directly from the platform itself, up to a height of 100 m.

GEDA has been setting new high quality and safety standards for decades. Thus, the GEDA 500 Z/ZP is naturally equipped with the usual safety equipment such as limit switches, speed-dependent safety gear, safety stop and overload protection. A wide range of hot-dip galvanized landing level safety hoists provide for safe transfer between platform and the respective landing. This was also the case on the topmost entry and exit gates on the Deutsches Museum. As with all GEDA rack and pinion hoists, the lubrication equipment is included as standard in the GEDA 500 Z/ZP. This ensures significantly lower wear on the toothed rack and pinions. The GEDA transport platforms bring together over eight decades of proven know-how with continuous further developments. Original GEDA transport platforms are a strong partner for heavy loads and efficient working, whether on a new construction or a refurbishment project, and are highly regarded worldwide for their unique quality and longevity.
